Decisions
Mary sat down slowly this time.
“I’ve been thinking about everything we’ve talked about,” she said. “Time, risk, cash… behavior.”
Breed Holloway nodded.
“And what stands out?” he asked.
Mary hesitated.
“That I have to make these decisions myself now.”
Breed didn’t respond immediately.
“For a long time,” Mary continued, “I didn’t really think about it. Someone else handled most of it.”
She looked down briefly.
“But now… it’s on me.”
Breed leaned forward slightly.
“That’s where most people get stuck,” he said.
Mary looked up.
“Because they don’t know what to do?”
“Not exactly,” Breed replied. “Because they’re afraid of making the wrong decision.”
Mary nodded.
“That sounds right.”
Breed paused.
“Most decisions in investing aren’t about being right or wrong,” he said.
“They’re about being understood.”
Mary frowned slightly.
“I don’t follow.”
“If you understand why you’re making a decision,” Breed continued,
“you’re far more likely to stay with it.”
Mary sat quietly.
“So it’s not about finding the perfect answer.”
Breed shook his head.
“It’s about making a decision you can live with.”
Mary exhaled.
“That feels different.”
Breed gave a small nod.
“It should.”
He paused before adding one more thought.
“The goal isn’t to eliminate uncertainty.”
Mary looked at him.
“It’s to move forward with clarity.”
Next week, Mary begins to see something that most investors overlook when making decisions:
Confidence.
