The Three Questions

Mary looked at the investment statements again.

"They've grown over the years," she said. "Doesn't that mean everything is okay?"

Breed smiled.

"That's the question most people ask."

He picked up one statement.

"But there are three questions every investor should ask."

Mary leaned forward.

"First...what do I actually own?"

"Second...why do I own it?"

"And third...does it still fit the life I'm living today?"

Mary sat quietly.

For years she had believed understanding her finances meant reading the account balance.

Now she realized the balance was only the beginning.

Real confidence came from understanding the investments themselves.

Next week: Mary discovers why diversification is about far more than owning different investments—it's about protecting the life you've worked so hard to build.
