Time

Mary didn’t sit down right away.

“I’ve been thinking about what you said,” she told Breed Holloway.
“If we can’t control the future… then time must matter more than anything else.”

Breed nodded.

“Now you’re starting to see it.”

Mary took her seat.

“But that’s not how most people invest,” she said. “They watch what’s happening now.”

“They do,” Breed replied. “And that’s where the problem begins.”

Mary leaned forward.

“Because they’re reacting?”

“Yes,” Breed said. “They confuse activity with progress.”

He paused.

“Time is the one asset most investors ignore,” he continued. “Not because they don’t have it… but because they don’t respect it.”

Mary thought about that.

“So even a good decision can fail… if you don’t give it enough time?”

Breed smiled.

“Exactly.”

He leaned back.

“Most investors don’t fail because they made a bad decision,” he said.
“They fail because they didn’t stay with a good one long enough.”

Mary sat quietly.

“I think I’ve done that,” she admitted.

“Most people have,” Breed replied.

He looked at her carefully.

“The question isn’t whether time matters,” he said.

Mary met his gaze.

“It’s whether you can allow it to work.”

Next week, Mary begins to understand a word that most investors misunderstand:

Risk.
